Sheets and screws for a given wall or ceiling area.

How it is worked out

area × (1 + waste) ÷ sheet size = sheets, rounded up

What it assumes

A 4×8 sheet is 32 sq ft; 4×12 is 48. Longer sheets mean fewer joints if you can get them in the room.
10% waste is normal for a room with openings; a plain rectangle runs less.
About 32 screws per sheet at 16 in on center.
