How it is worked out

risers = rise ÷ 7.75 rounded UP · riser height = rise ÷ risers

What it assumes

7.75 in is the IRC maximum riser. Rounding UP keeps every riser under it.
Treads are risers minus one — the floor above is the last step.
10–11 in of tread run is standard; check your local amendment.
